CESSRST Graduate Scholar Recognized for Top 5 Winner! at UTEP GradExpo 2025
CESSRST II Fellow Leah Porras has received recognition as a Top 5 Winner at the University of Texas at El Paso GradExpo 2025. Leah’s award winning poster was titled ” Using Machine Learning to Detect Seals and Polar Bears in MultiSpectral Aerial Imagery” which utilizes annotated UV, IR and RGB imagery to develop a detection model that can identify polar bears and white coat seals in a multispectral imagery.
Leah is a CESSRST-II Cohort 3 Fellow studying Computer and Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso and is mentored by Dr. Miguel Velez Reyes and Dr. Erin Moreland (NOAA Alaska Fisheries Science Center)
