NOAA GFDL
The Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences program at Princeton University seeks outstanding applicants for postdoctoral positions. The postdoctoral scientists may work with both Princeton University faculty and leading scientists at NOAA-GFDL, a preeminent NOAA Laboratory for Earth System Science. The primary criterion for selection is outstanding demonstrated capabilities and future potential in one or more of a wide array of topics in atmospheric and oceanic sciences. In consultation with their hosts, the selected candidates will have significant flexibility in selecting and pursuing their area of research. The areas of potential focus include, but are not limited to: atmospheric and oceanic dynamics, clouds and convection, radiative processes, atmospheric chemistry, weather to decadal variability and predictability, including extremes, data assimilation, land processes, geochemical processes, marine ecosystems, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and high-resolution global to regional modeling. Cross-cutting and interdisciplinary topics are encouraged.Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact GFDL and Princeton University scientists prior to application. To find potential research hosts, please consult the GFDL organizational chart and the AOS Faculty List.
Application deadline is May 1, 2026.
How to apply to the postdoctoral research scientists program

Applications should include a cover letter, CV, three letters of recommendation, and a concise, well-written research proposal. This proposal should clearly outline the research the applicant wishes to conduct in collaboration with Princeton and NOAA-GFDL scientists, and should list the proposed collaborators, as well as having a clear explanatory project title. A goal of our program is diversifying the community of scientists and making the field more equitable and inclusive. We will therefore take into consideration personal experiences as well as efforts in education, outreach or other service activities related to earth system science or other sciences, which may be described in a separate section of the research proposal. Applications should be submitted by May 1, 2026, 11:59pm EST, for full consideration.
These positions are subject to the University’s background check policy. The work location for this position is in-person at Princeton University.
