IMPORTANT UPDATE !!!

In the event that COVID 19 Pandemic and social distancing continues beyond May 2020, CREST HIRES and NOAA CESSRST Summer 2020 Bridge Programs will be held “remotely” using ZOOM platform www.ccny.zoom.us to conduct online classes, weekly brown bags, research seminars, pre and post/exit surveys and breakout session. We look forward to your virtual participation in summer 2020 and make it fruitful and rewarding. Deadline extended April 15, 2020” .

SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM


The summer bridge program this year (2020) starts on June 17 (tentative) and ends on  August 9, 2020 (tentative)  (please note that the start and end dates might change depending on which campus you select for internship).  Deadline is April 15, 2020

The internships are offered at following NOAA CREST locations.  Please note that you must be a current or incoming student at one of these locations:

  • City College of the City University of New York, NY
  • Hampton University, VA
  • San Diego State University, CA
  • University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, PR
  • University of Maryland, Baltimore County, MD
  • University of Texas, El Paso, TX

Program Benefits

  • 8 weeks of research experience
  • Learn about NOAA missions related STEM fields (Science, Social Science and Engineering)
  • Hands-on research guided by faculty mentors and graduate students
  • Graduate school advising
  • Special seminars, professional preparation and training for freshmen and sophomores on how to submit a successful application package for NOAA Undergraduate Scholarship Programs http://www.noaa.gov/office-education/epp-msi/undergraduate-scholarship
  • Special seminars, speakers, lab tours, and field trips
  • $3,500 summer internship stipend earned at the end of 8 week summer bridge program; $500  disbursed after proof of Hollings/EPP application.

Eligibility

  • Must be a United States citizen. International students or permanent residents are NOT eligible for this opportunity.
  • Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and non-graduating seniors enrolled in four year colleges and universities in the United States, or in UPRM (University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez)
  • Current or incoming students at an affiliated community college in the US – see application for details 
  • Incoming Seniors transferring to senior colleges are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Engineering and Earth and Physical Science majors
  • 3.0 grade point average or higher
  • No prior research experience is required
  • Students from underrepresented minority communities.
