Researchers and students gathered on March 6, 2026, for the seminar “Building Coastal Research Partnerships with NOAA,” hosted by the NOAA Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST II) at the Grove School of Engineering in New York City. The event brought together experts from multiple NOAA offices to discuss opportunities for collaboration and to strengthen partnerships that support coastal and environmental research. The seminar emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing challenges facing coastal communities and ecosystems.
The seminar featured presentations by Dr. Lonnie Gonsalves of NOAA’s National Ocean Service (NOS), Artara Johnson, Dr. Veeshan Narinesingh, and Matthew Harrison. Speakers highlighted NOAA’s priority mission areas and the technical skills needed to support research and operational activities across the agency. The seminar also highlighted interdisciplinary research and the role that partnerships between universities and federal agencies play in advancing scientific knowledge which provides a deeper understanding of how research can be translated into practical solutions that support environmental stewardship and community resilience.
Beyond the technical presentations, the event provided a valuable networking opportunity for students and researchers interested in NOAA-related careers and partnerships. By fostering connections between academic institutions and NOAA scientists, the seminar reinforced CESSRST’s mission of preparing the next generation of environmental researchers while expanding collaborative efforts that contribute to the protection and sustainability of coastal and marine resources.
