Danielle Lafarga successfully defending her thesis this fall. she graduates with at the end of spring 2026 with her PhD in Computational Science at San Diego State University. Dr. Lafarga was a CESSRST-II Cohort 1 Fellow and her mentor was Dr. Sam Shen.
Dani’s thesis, “Three-dimensional empirical orthogonal functions for big climate data: Computation, Visualization and interpretation,” looks at a simplified approach using either a temporal covariance approach or a partition input method that enables 3D computation for large climate datasets using a regular personal computer with limited memory.
Dani continues at San Diego as a Lab manager/postdoc at the SCIL Lab
