SUMMARY:Climate Diagnostics & Prediction Workshop (CDPW48) and Climate Prediction Applications Science Workshop (CPASW21)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Announcement\n2024 CDPW–CPASW Joint Workshop\nIt is with great pleasure that we announce the joint NOAA’s 48th Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop (CDPW48) and 21st Climate Prediction Applications Science Workshop (CPASW21) that will be held in sunny Tallahassee\, Florida\, USA from March 26–29th\, 2024. The workshop will be hosted by the Department of Earth\, Ocean and Atmospheric Science (EOAS) and the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies (COAPS) at Florida State University and is co-hosted by the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and the Climate Services Branch (CSB) of the National Weather Service (NWS). \nThe workshop will bring together a diverse community to share developments in research and application of weather and climate information for societal decision-making. Participants will include researchers\, service producers\, resource managers\, emergency managers\, planners\, practitioners\, social scientists\, and others making weather and climate-sensitive decisions. \nThis meeting is currently being planned as a hybrid in person / virtual event\, hoping to combine the benefits of a face-to-face meeting with the potential for broader virtual participation. At this time\, we are planning to have all speakers and poster presenters on site in Tallahassee\, with the option for virtual attendance for those who would like to listen to workshop speakers without traveling to Tallahassee. \nThe CDPW48 will focus on three major themes that encompass the topics of prediction\, monitoring\, attribution\, and diagnostics: \n\nTheme 1: Predictions and Predictability of Climate and Forecast Verifications\nPredictions and predictability of climate variability across spatial and temporal scales\, and forecast verifications. Topics of interest include diagnostics and attribution of climate anomalies and of extreme events\, including heat and cold waves; polar amplification; sudden stratospheric warmings and their impact on mid-latitude climate variability; marine heat waves.\nTheme 2: Novel Statistical Methods for Improved S2S Prediction\nApplications of novel statistical methods\, including machine learning / artificial intelligence (ML/AI) on the development of improved predictions at Sub-seasonal to Seasonal (S2S) time scales.\nTheme 3: Prediction and monitoring of hydroclimate in the Southeast U.S.\nPrediction and monitoring of hydroclimate in the Southeast U.S.\, including drought\, pluvial flooding\, extreme precipitation\, and other variables related to water resources. We also encourage relevant contributions on the prediction and monitoring of the marine climate over the Gulf of Mexico and along the eastern shores of the Southeastern U.S.\n\nThe CPASW21 will focus on “Discovering and Integrating Innovative Approaches in Climate Service Delivery for Growing Environmental and Economic Challenges” that encompass the following themes: \n\nTheme 4: Bridging climate forecasts and application in support of a Climate Ready Nations for service delivery\nTools and techniques that bridge climate forecasts with climate applications and service delivery in support of a Climate Ready Nation\, including methods to foster resilience to impactful weather\, water\, and environmental hazards\, including drought\, floods\, extreme heat\, and fire weather.\nTheme 5: Emerging requirements for climate services delivery\nNew service requirements for climate data\, tools\, prediction applications\, and information delivery methods that are based on advances in modern technology\, scientific innovations\, to meet the growing needs of contemporary users.\nTheme 6: Measuring benefits of climate services\nClimate services value to the national economy and communities using socio-\, behavioral-\, and economic- scientific methods.\n\nThe joint workshop may feature oral and poster presentations\, lightning talks\, invited speakers\, panel sessions\, and group discussions. Early bird and discounted student registration rates will be available. \nYou may submit your abstract via the abstract submission form linked below. \nFor those of you who already submitted abstracts to CDPW48\, we ask that you please resubmit using the link below. Thank you for your understanding. \nThe abstract due date is December 1\, 2023. \nFor more information\, \nEvent Website

SUMMARY:NYC Future Energy Conference
DESCRIPTION:Download NYCFE Conference Flyer \nCUNY and CCNY are partnering to host the upcoming NYC Future Energy Conference on March 28th\, which will bring together diverse researchers in the NYC Metropolitan Area studying the sustainable generation and storage of energy\, flexible infrastructure for the efficient distribution of energy\, and means for securing energy justice in the face of climate change. We welcome academics\, industry and government partners\, and community stakeholders to join us for this event. \nDate: March 28\, 2024 \nLocation: City College of New York \nIn the face of a changing climate\, how does a city meet the twin challenges of obtaining energy sustainably and distributing that energy efficiently to its citizens? Our unreliable future demands innovation now to ensure the continued resiliency of energy infrastructure. The NYC Future Energy Conference at the City College of New York will bring together diverse researchers studying the sustainable generation\nand storage of energy\, flexible infrastructure for the efficient distribution of energy\, and means for securing energy justice in the face of climate change.\nThis one-day conference will highlight pioneering work in energy research to build collaborative networks within the NYC region and nationally. Sessions will focus on technical aspects of energy research but will challenge the audience to think about how these technological elements can be brought together to achieve energy justice. \nThe City College of New York is well placed to lead these conversations as an MSI and HSI with strong links to the local Harlem community\, while also being a hotbed for energy research and the home of the CUNY Energy Institute\, the Institute for Municipal Waste Research\, and the Building Performance Lab \nCALL FOR POSTERS – NYC FUTURE ENERGY CONFERENCE \nWe are accepting poster abstract submissions for the upcoming NYC Future Energy Conference on March 28th\, 2024. Poster abstracts must be submitted via our registration form by March 8th\, 2024 for full consideration. Final decisions will be sent out on March 15th\, 2024. \nThe NYC Future Energy Conference covers a wide range of topics in energy research—from the sustainable generation and storage of energy\, to flexible infrastructure for the efficient distribution of energy\, to means for securing energy justice in the face of climate change—and we welcome poster submissions from across this breadth. \nWe anticipate being able to accommodate most poster presenters\, conditional on space constraints.  Our poster boards can accommodate posters up to 5 feet tall by 3 feet wide. \nPlease reach out to Dr. Jackie Lee Weissman (jweissman@ccny.cuny.edu) with any questions.
