The Postdoctoral Fellow position is a 12-month position (extended to 24 month) at the NOAA-Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies, The City College of New York, 160 Convent Ave, New York, NY, 10031. Candidate will be co-located for 6 months in a NOAA facility as well

Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral fellowship goal to expand scientific understanding of NOAA mission sciences, with a focus on remote sensing and Earth system science and technology. This position offers the opportunity to advance their research while contributing to NOAA-related science missions and engage in application of Remote Sensing technologies in one of the three (or interdisciplinary) research themes (1) Coastal Resources and sustainability(2) Weather and Atmospheric Hazards, and (3) Water Prediction and Ecosystem Services. Candidate will be communicating research results through publication in peer-reviewed journals, meeting proceedings, project websites and presentations at scientific meetings, and develop technical documentation and training material on the design and use of new data processing tools for U.S. federal partners and the broader community. The post-doc will be responsible for preparing quarterly and annual reports summarizing progress on project objectives and writing journal articles describing project results.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be US Citizens and have received a PhD within the past two years (24 months) from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Education/Credential:

Applied Math, Atmospheric Science, Geoscience, Oceanography, Hydrology, Meteorology, Engineering (Civil, Geological, Ocean or Environmental), or related field.

Candidates that demonstrate any or all of the following are preferred: (1) strong skills in independent conceptual model development at multiple scales, statistical data analysis, machine learning, and analysis and visualization of complex simulation results; field measurement ; (2) fluency in R and Python; (3) experience with managing scientific workflows, software modular design and version control to optimize efficiency; (4) experience with the numerical solution of nonlinear/linear PDEs governing physical processes; (5) experience with Fortran90/C/C++, the Linux operating system, and parallel programming paradigms.
